BAYO AKOMOLAFE: THE URGENCY OF EMBODIMENT IN DIRE TIMES

BAYO AKOMOLAFE:
THE URGENCY OF EMBODIMENT IN DIRE TIMES

The Jung Society of Utah is pleased and blessed to be bringing Bayo Akomolafe, a professor, activist and globally recognized author and social change agent to our community. Join us for two special events with Bayo as he guides and teaches us about the urgency of embodiment and how the dynamics in our time force us to reconsider everything we thought we knew about identity, Self, language, time, healing, life, dying, and the non-human world – and how Èsù, an ancient Yoruba Trickster stands (or slouches, given his famous limp) as a shimmering figure of note we should pay attention too.

ABOUT BAYO:A lecturer and speaker, Bayo is Chief Curator of The Emergence Network, an earth-wide trans-local organization for exploring our capacities to respond to our crises - a project framed within a feminist ethos and inspired by indigenous cosmologies. Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.) has been visiting Professor at Middlebury College, where he taught on ‘transraciality’ (his neo-materialist take on racialization) and postactivism. He has also taught at Sonoma State University (CA, USA), Simon Fraser
University (Vancouver, Canada), and Schumacher College (Totnes, England) – among other universities around the world. He is a widely appreciated speaker, teacher, public intellectual, author and facilitator, globally recognized for his poetic, unconventional, counterintuitive, and indigenous take on global crisis, civic action and social change. He is also host of the online writing course, ‘We will dance with Mountains: Writing as a Tool for Emergence’.
